Klingelberger

Klingelberger is a local appellation for the king of wines, Riesling.

In 1782 the Margrave Karl Friedrich von Baden planted 2,200 two-year-old Riesling vines in his vineyard at Staufenberg Castle in the Rheingau wine region. The Klingelberg area comprises the upper part of the castle peak, directly next to Staufenberg Castle. Today it is a sloping plantation of approximately 2.5 ha, however it was never recognized as a single vineyard. At over 400 m above sea level, it is one of the highest Riesling vineyards in Germany.

The wine has a complex, layered aroma comprised of lemon, quince, apple, peach and apricot over floral suggestions like lavender and elder.

The wine is characterised by its strong acid structure and intense minerality.
