To enjoy the world

At Hotel Ritter, you’ll not only enjoy a getaway surrounded by breathtaking nature, but also experience a deep connection to the region and its diverse landscape. The picturesque vineyards, majestic fir trees of the Black Forest, and delicious regional products reflect the beauty of the Ortenau—a heritage worth preserving.

Enjoying nature while protecting it is of central importance to us. In an industry that involves high resource consumption, we strive to use the natural treasures of our surroundings responsibly. We are committed to sustainable practices and work continuously to minimize our consumption and reduce our ecological footprint. In this way, we aim to actively contribute to protecting the environment and maintaining a healthy climate.

Energy

We took environmental considerations into account right from the start of the hotel’s renovation. Four combined heat and power units (saving approx. 112 tonnes of CO₂) and a rooftop solar panel system (saving approx. 18 tonnes of CO₂) generate our electricity. Furthermore, our rooms are fitted with energy-saving lighting and energy-efficient air-conditioning systems.

E-mobility and public transport

Fancy a trip into the countryside? Then you have the opportunity to explore the region with a rented e-bike or e-car. You can also conveniently charge your own electric vehicle at several locations. The KONUS guest card also gives you free travel to excursion destinations on public transport in the Black Forest holiday region.

Regionality

When selecting food and products, we pay attention to regionality and seasonality and try to source as many products as possible from the region. We therefore avoid ready-made and convenience products as far as possible and support many local suppliers. When it comes to our animal products, we naturally ensure that the animals are kept in a species-appropriate and ethical manner. Organic or even bio-dynamic cultivation is also important to us when selecting our wines. Wood from the region is used in the furnishings of the restaurants and rooms in order to minimise transport distances and support regional suppliers.

Conservation of resources

Our focus is on conserving resources and producing as little waste as possible. Strict waste separation and organised waste management by our staff are a matter of course for us. Forgotten your pool slippers? Instead of environmentally unfriendly disposable slippers, you can purchase high-quality flip-flops with massage nubs from souls. In the kitchen, great importance is placed on being mindful of the food used; virtually every product is used in its entirety to conserve resources and avoid waste. To save paper, more and more areas of the business, and marketing materials in particular, are being digitised.

Cleaning

EM bacteria are used to clean the house, which are particularly gentle on our environment. To save water, we do not use table linen at the Makidan. Do your bit: you decide for yourself whether your room should be cleaned and how often you want your bed linen and towels washed.

Educational Forest

Our Motivation

Of course, the climate is close to our hearts. To each and every one of us. Classic car driving fits right into this picture, and we’ve summarized the reasons for you. A Porsche 356 has produced hardly any waste in 60 years and gets 8 liters of gas per 100 kilometers. Built in Zuffenhausen, just like the body, and with suppliers like Bosch and Michelin based right in our neighborhood. No components come from overseas. Plastic is used sparingly. All materials are recyclable. Plus, it typically only covers 2,000 km per year.
What modern car boasts such an eco-friendly footprint? We want more.

The Implementation

At the end of the day, a rally produces fine dust and CO2. We offer sustainable offsetting in collaboration with the Albert Schweitzer School in Kehl and a 25-hectare educational forest, which we are establishing together with you. Together, we raise awareness among underprivileged children and participants about climate and forest issues. We are setting up a nature classroom, establishing mushroom farms and tree nurseries, and creating habitats for insects and animals. Please support this meaningful and sustainable project.

One forest. A thousand possibilities.
We love the forest and the opportunities it offers to create special moments for you.

Support

Over the years, we have raised over €150,000 for the Albert Schweitzer School, which has been used not only for the learning forest but also for other important purchases.
